These terms govern your access to and use of humphreytheodore.com (the “Site”), an independent global digital news and opinion publication operated by Humphrey Theodore K. Ng'ambi(“we”, “our”, “us”, or the “Publisher”). By accessing the Site, subscribing to the newsletter, or submitting comments, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Site.

1. About this publication

The Site is a global publication. It publishes essays, reportage, analysis, interviews, and opinion on technology, philosophy, governance, world affairs, and Emergent Intelligence, intended for an international readership. It is operated as an independent news publication and observes recognised journalistic standards in its editorial process.

2. Editorial standards and corrections

• Accuracy. We take reasonable steps to verify factual claims before publication. Where we cite a source, we link to it.
• Independence. Editorial decisions are made by the Publisher and are not contingent on advertising, sponsorship, or third-party influence. Sponsored or commissioned work is labelled as such.
• Corrections. Where a material error is identified, we will correct the record promptly and note the correction at the foot of the affected article. To request a correction, email ht@humphreytheodore.com.
• Right of reply. Subjects of critical reporting may request a right of reply, which we will consider in good faith.

3. Intellectual property and use of content

All written content, images, audio, video, code, and design on the Site are the property of the Publisher or its licensors and are protected by international copyright law, including the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the national copyright statutes of jurisdictions in which the work is accessed.

You may, without prior permission:

• link to articles on the Site;
• quote up to 200 words of a published article in your own work, provided you attribute the quotation to the article's author and include a link to the original; and
• share Site URLs on social platforms.

4. User-submitted comments

Comments and other user submissions reflect the views of their authors, not the Publisher. By submitting a comment, you warrant that:

• the content is your own or you have the right to post it;
• it is not unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, obscene, or in breach of another person's rights;
• it does not contain advertising or unsolicited promotional content; and
• you grant the Publisher a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and moderate the content on the Site.

We reserve the right to remove or edit any comment, and to suspend or terminate accounts, at our sole discretion.

5. Newsletter and communications

Subscribing to the newsletter is voluntary. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any newsletter email or by visiting /unsubscribe. We do not sell or rent subscriber lists.

6. Third-party content and links

The Site links to and embeds content from third parties (for example YouTube videos, social media posts, and external articles). We do not control and are not responsible for the content or practices of third parties. Following an external link is at your own risk.

Content on the Site is provided for general informational and journalistic purposes. It does not constitute legal, financial, medical, investment, or other professional advice. While we strive for accuracy, we make no warranty that the Site or its content is free of errors, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Publisher is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under the consumer-protection laws of your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. Material changes will be flagged on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

11. Governing law and venue

The Site serves a global readership. Where the law of your country of residence grants you mandatory consumer or data-protection rights, nothing in these terms removes or restricts those rights, and they continue to apply.

For all other matters, these terms are governed by the laws of the Publisher's place of operation, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to your mandatory local rights, any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction on a non-exclusive basis. Where required by local law (for example, in the European Union, United Kingdom, or a country granting comparable consumer protections), you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence.
